Check out Donna Reed (born Donna Belle Mullenger; January 27, 1921 – January 14, 1986), a legendary American film and TV actress and producer. Her career lasted over 40 years, with gigs in more than 40 movies.
She’s super famous for her role as Mary Hatch Bailey in Frank Capra’s 1946 flick It’s a Wonderful Life. In 1953, she snagged the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Lorene Burke in the war drama From Here to Eternity.
Reed is probably most known for her TV work, especially as Donna Stone, a middle-class American mom and housewife in the sitcom The Donna Reed Show (1958–66). Her character was way more assertive than most other TV moms back then. She got a bunch of Emmy nominations for this role and even won the Golden Globe Award for Best TV Star in 1963.
Later in her career, Reed stepped in for Barbara Bel Geddes as Miss Ellie Ewing in the 1984–85 season of the TV drama Dallas. However, she got axed abruptly when Geddes decided to return to the show, and Reed ended up suing the production company for breach of contract.
